The worlds first 3D printed letterpress typeface

A collaborative project between New North Press, Chalk Studios and A2 Type, funded by the arts council and exhibited at the V&A museum. The aim was to produce the first 3D printed letterpress typeface.

New North Press got funding by the arts council to create a letterpress using 3D printing the aiming being to connect the old technology with the new. A2 Type were approached to create a new font and chose to make something which referenced the 3D nature of the project and so settle with a wireframe type design. Our team at Chalk Studios, 3D printed the new font, hand sanding each one to an exact 23.32mm in height before handing them over to be used at New North Press for a limited edition run of 200 pieces.
